Never Skip Breakfast

Hello and Happy New Year.  If you're like most people, you've made some new year's resolutions for 2016.  If it happens to be eat healthier, I might be able to help you get started.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.  I know.  You've heard this all your life, but it's true for so many reasons.

  1. It stops the overnight fasting period and restores the glucose supply in your muscles. Lean Muscle mass is important because the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn helping to keep those inches off.

  1. If you start your day with breakfast, you tend to consume fewer calories throughout the day.

  1. You need a balance of good carbs, protein and fiber, which help to provide a good source of energy to keep you fueled and moving until your next meal.

One of my favorite breakfast meals is overnight oats.  You can prep several days in advance and keep individual containers in the frig.  This meal is great if you're busy like I am and you want to save time in the morning and get out the door.  It also has a great macro breakdown giving you the protein, fats and carbs you need to get your day started.

Recipe:

1/2 cup oats uncooked

1/3 cup fage greek yogurt

1/2 scoop protein of choice (i like vanilla)

1/2 cup almond milk

Almond butter or any nut butter (1 tbsp)

Cinnamon

Mix all together throw it in the fridge in a container and eat it in the morning, cold! You can also top with berries.

Enjoy, and look for more posts on recipes and clean eating in the future.
